The City of Healdsburg is located 69 miles north of San Francisco in the heart of Sonoma County wine country.  Its 3.56 square miles is surrounded by more than 60 wineries.  The City’s approximate 12,100 diverse and highly engaged residents enjoy a lively, appealing downtown experience centered around the Spanish-style Healdsburg Plaza.  Healdsburg proudly retains its small-town feel. The Healdsburg Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 18 sworn peace officers, seven non-sworn professional staff, and a recently funded full time position of Police Social Services Team Member.


The City is seeking an inspirational leader and strong relationship builder to be its next Chief.  The new Chief must be forward thinking and in tune with the ever-changing landscape of modern policing. The selected individual must be approachable, visible in the community, and are expected to be strong member of the City’s collaborative and highly functioning leadership team.  They must recognize that a customer service orientation is a priority.


Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, criminology, social science, public or business administration or a related field.  A master’s degree is preferred.  Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in supervisory or command experience in police or law enforcement service; including three years of administrative and management responsibility. The annual salary range is $167,000 to $203,000 DOQE, and the city provides an outstanding benefit package.
