Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award

Congratulations to Inspector Cris Cunningham, Oklahoma City PD as the 2015 Tiny Miller Award Recipient

 


The NAWLEE Ina Mae “TINY” Miller award is presented by the NAWLEE Board of Directors and sponsored by Ms. Miller’s family: daughter, Conni Eichler; her grandchildren Keri Eichler Pfuehler, Kelli Eichler Diaz, Shannon Miller and Che Miller to recognize a NAWLEE MEMBER for exceptional acts; not limited to acts of bravery or exemplary service to their department or community. This award will recognize an individual who exhibits the same dedication to leadership and the mission of NAWLEE. This recognition will acknowledge an individual in law enforcement in a non-executive position.

This act will have needed to occur within the dates of August 2015 and May 2017.

The nomination will include, at least one of the following criteria:
Act of Bravery and Heroism: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an act of bravery and heroism that went above and beyond the call of duty. This would be an extraordinary act supported by documentation/video or other reliable source.

Motivation and Vision: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an individual for providing an inspired vision within their department or community by taking on a difficult mission/project/community action. This could be demonstrated by influencing others to achieve an exceptionally difficult mission or improve the organization.

Initiative and Innovation: The Ina Mae “Tiny” Miller Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated an initiative or innovation on their department and or related to the community they serve. The initiative or innovation would have marked improvement for the department or community; is measurable and supported documentation.

Evaluation of nominees will be reviewed by the NAWLEE Awards Committee.

Nominations must be received by May 01, 2017. The Award will be presented at the 22nd Annual NAWLEE Conference in Kansas City, MO August 2nd-6th, 2017.
The recipient of the award will receive:
• Provide airfare, hotel and conference registration not to exceed $1500.00.
• Arrangements will be made by NAWLEE Treasurer once funding is made available.

Scholarships


NAWLEE is proud to offer several scholarships for the annual conference. The number of scholarships varies from year to year. Check back often for new scholarship opportunities.

For the 2017 Conference, the following scholarships are currently available.

Diane Skoog Honorary Scholarship



The Diane Skoog Honorary Scholarship will be awarded to a woman currently serving as Chief for her agency who is attending a NAWLEE conference for the first time. Diane Skoog is the former Executive Director of NAWLEE who devoted 17 years to our organization. Diane is also the former Chief from Carver, MA where she served for 25 years.

The Scholarship will cover up to $1200. to be used for NAWLEE conference fee, hotel (room & tax only), and airfare/travel. Selections will be made by Diane Skoog and other NAWLEE committee members.

NAWLEE’s Past President

NAWLEE’s Past President Scholarship:

NAWLEE’s Past Presidents are pleased to announce the newly established Past Presidents Scholarship for new and potential executive members who have not had the opportunity to attend a NAWLEE conference and may need some financial assistance to do so.

• Active member of a federal, state, county, municipal, campus, or railroad law enforcement agency
• Must currently supervise first-line supervisors or above
• Has not attended a NAWLEE annual conference previously
• Up to $1000. for actual expenses NAWLEE conference fee, hotel (room & tax only), and airfare/travel

If you are currently a NAWLEE member and know of an eligible applicant that would be interested in experiencing a NAWLEE conference please pass this information along. Help a colleague or newly promoted law enforcement leader to experience the “magic” of NAWLEE.

Asphalt Magnolias

Asphalt Magnolias Scholarship:
• Women Troopers in state police or highway patrol agencies only
• Must be Employed in the following states: LA, AR, MS, AL, TN, GA, NC, SC, KY, WV, VA, FL
• Executive Level
• First Time NAWLEE Conference Attendee
• Up to $1200. for actual expenses NAWLEE conference fee, hotel (room & tax only), and airfare/travel.

The benefactor of the Asphalt Magnolias scholarship believes that women continue to be underrepresented in both numbers and at the command level of state police and highway patrol agencies after more than 40 years of women in policing. The number of women troopers, particularly at the command level, remains low in most state police and highway patrol agencies in the south. The scholarship is being made available as an opportunity for the recipient to connect with other women at the executive level and encourage future participation of their agency and other women troopers.

Star and Shield

Star & Shield Scholarship:
• Florida resident
• Law Enforcement field
• First Time NAWLEE Conference Attendee
• Up to $1000. for actual expenses to be used for NAWLEE conference fee, hotel (room & tax only), and airfare/travel.
